Okay I have a few questions about cake dummies. I want to do some cake decorating for pics without making a cake every time, so I thought I would use dummies. I went looking for styrofoam, cause I thought you could just use that, but they just arent the right size. So I went online looking for dummies and found some. ANyway, my question is, can you cover the dummies so they can be used more than once? Any really any other advice about the dummies is greatly appreciated!

Yes you can use them over and over. I use BC only and it goes directly onto the styro. The icing will get rock hard (mine in just 2-3 hours). When I'm ready to change it, it get a knife under the icing and run the knife around the styro and the BC pops right off. Wipe with a damp rag and it's ready to go again.

I understand from the fondant users that you may have to treat the styrofoam for the fondant to go on smooth ..... I'll leave the tricks of the trade re: fondant to those experts on here who will be better able to help you with that.

Regular cake dummies can be easily reused. Once the icing or fondant has dried out, it will just peel off. Don't immurse in water, just wipe it well and you are good to go.

try dallas-foam.com for good prices.

I use dummies all the time. For fondant I brush them with piping gel first so that the fondant sticks. I use them over a few times, but after a while I replace them. I have had a few get moldy under the icing after using them for a display.

They do have good prices on the actual dummies but how is their shipping charges. They have a blurb on their website about dimension weight which makes it sound like shipping would be high. Can you tell me anything about this?

very reasonable. it will seem expensive if you order just one or two, but the more you order, the better the shipping.
