The largest rolling pin I own is 20'' long. The largest cake I've used fondant on is 10'', and its a little difficult wraping my fondant around the pin to cover the cake. Its a bit short.
Would I need a longer pin to roll out fondant for larger cakes (14''-18''), and where can I get one?
Any suggestions on rolling fondant for large cakes?

I roll my fondant on a sheet of plastic 'fabric' from the fabric store. It makes transfer really easy.

However, you can get a nice piece of PVC pipe from the hardware store, and they may even cut it for you.

Great idea JoAnnB!
But how do transfer your fondant using the plastic fabric?

Once it is rolled out, it will adhere to the plastic a bit. then I just flip it over the cake (sometimes I use a helper) arrange the fondant to center it then peel off the fondant. Works well for me.

What has worked really well for me are the counter sheets from Tupperware for rolling out pies etc. They stick well to a counter and have the circular measurements on them. I roll out my fondant to the size needed and then pick up the entire sheet, flip it over - the fondant stays adhered to the sheet, center it over the cake, place on cake and then separate the sheet from the fondant. Works every time. I never have to worry about creases, rips, etc. Hope this helps.
