Sorry, when I need black, I buy precolored black fondant.

I mix a lot of red into the melted marshmallows first, then i add the black before i start adding the powdered sugar...sounds weird, I know, but it works like a charm~~~good luck icon_rolleyes.gif

If you are going to use a lot, maybe you better buy a pre-coloured fondant. If using a small amount could start with choc fondant and adding black. Or you could use a red and green to obtain the black colour. HTH

Hi, per info i learned from searching this site, I use Rhonda's Chocolate MMF recipe & then add black coloring. it does still take quite a bit of black, and it DOES turn people's mouths black, so be warned if this is the main color of your cake! I'm assuming the pre-colored black fondant you can buy wouldn't do that, but I don't have personal experience w/ it. Good luck to you!

it's always best to start with chocolate, then add black. it gets darker as it has time to sit.

SatinIce makes black. Personally I would just buy it....rather than hassling with making it...but that's just me!

For a star and moon cake for a teen - perhaps instead of black you could do a rich midnight blue?

I just mix the paste colour black with a little alcohol, and 'paint' wherever needs to be black. Works each time. The black and white HAT and BOX that I posted was 'painted' using paste colour and a soft bristle brush....

I always mix the black food coloring into the melted marshmallows. it doesn't take a lot this way and is a lot easier on the hands than kneeding it in. You can also control the end consistency more by adding the powdered sugar in after the color.
