CAn anyone suggest a good brand of turntable? I got mine from my Mom which was God knows howold and it DIED today. I ran to Wal-Mart and thought, "Oh here's one for 10 bucks. . .It'll do til I can get another one."
This thing is a wobbly piece of junk. Proof that you get what you pay for!

I got mine at Michael's. It's by Wilton, and it weighs a ton, but it works like a dream. Even with my heaviest cakes the turntable glides effortlessly. I used a 40% off cupon from the Michael's flier, and it ended up costing under $30.

I have the same one.. Wilton professional... love it! ( I also saved the coupon for it- there were 2 in this sunday's papers if you still have the ad!)
keep in mind they also accept coupons for Joann's and ACMoore too ![]()
Speaking of the Wilton turntable, can anyone tell me if this is a defect: the 2 pieces of my turntable do not stay together. I thought there would be a way to lock them so that I could transport them as 1 unit. However, I can only lock the turntable plate itself, to prevent it from turning or to tilt it at a particular angle.
Does this make sense? Thanks for your help!

No...it doesn't stay together. If you move it, you have to be sure to move the base with it!
I don't know if you can look it up on "America's Test Kitchen" site or not, but I remember seeing a show not to long ago where they put turntables to the test.
I think they rated the Wilton Professional on really well, but not the one that tilts. I have the one that tilts and I hate it. I guess it's ok for just turning something on it, but I can't tell you how many times I have dropped something of while it was tilted!
I would really like to try the professional one that doesn't tilt from Wilton.
Btw-Michael's had 2 coupons last week also. My Mom gave me hers, and I went in that store 4 times last week. I was beginning to get embarrased.
But it won't keep me from going 4 times this week too!
I've also wanted to get Wilton's heavy duty one! Looks very nice! I have the cheapter tilting one and so far has worked fine, but I won't try the tilting mechanism.....to chicken and have heard horror stories about it! But, it's wonderful for just turning cakes!
I have an Ateco professional turntable. It is super heavy, it moves smoothly and I love it!
I have the reversible turn table (not by wilton). It's round on one side and rectangle on the other for sheet cakes. It's heavy and it turns like a dream.
I think I got it from country kitchen?? but not sure now. It doesn't have a brand name, it's just called reversible I think.
