How do I ice a red velvet cake without the crumbs showing through the icing?

crumb coat it, set it in the frige for about 30 min. then take it out and ice it. you should be okay

This is a real stupid question, but is red velvet cake Chocolate?

You could also get the Wilton Icing tip at Michael's. I use this and it is not necessary to use a crumb coat with it...It is a wonderful time saver!

Red velvet has some cocoa in it but it is not really chocolate tasting. It just is very red.

It is made with coco powder and tastes very similar to black forest only difference is there is about 2 oz. of red food coloring added.
