OK, ever since the horrible experience a few weeks back with a very unhappy customer who hated everything about the cake I did for her, my confidence has hit rock bottom. Every cake I've done since then I've convinced myself the recipient will hate in one way or another - stupid I know, but I just can't get myself out of it ![]()

! Anyhoo, just finished a wedding cake due for delivery tomorrow, and I've again convinced myself that the bride won't like it. It is based on the design below - I have changed the look a bit, as I don't like to do direct copies, but kept the basic elements the same as the bride wanted the green stems, white flowers with yellow middles and for it to just be girly & feminine. Is she going to like it? My OH says it's beautiful, but I'm still doubting myself - so I'd like an opinion from those in the know!
You can see my attempt in my pictures http://www.cakecentral.com/cake-photo_839353.html - thanks for looking and taking the time to respond ![]()
i think your cake is beautiful! i love that you added little flowers on the sides in addition to the ones around the tiers.
my gosh, if I had stopped teaching the first time I ran into a student or administrator or parent of student that I absolutely hated and who was a 1st class jerk --
i'd never have made to 31 years of teaching (oops giving away how old I am)
your cake is beautiful!!!!
be confident, be proud, be happy!
don't let that one turkey of bride get you down.
I think you cake is just beautiful. You just say to yourself, "She will love it!!" Because you know what, SHE WILL LOVE IT!!!!!!!! your works are great, and don't doubt your art.
First off I just want to say you are incredibly gifted. I saw the cake you posted and absolutely fell in love with it. You captured the design and turned it into something of your own that is as equally, if not more, beautiful. Terrific job on the overall design, flowers and stem's. I love how you did the top tier . The description of the flavor's of the cake and frosting's certainly fit the design and look of the cake. Yummy.
Please dont let that one bad experience with that customer influence your unique creativness and the positive experience you have when making and designing cakes. You do a terrfific job. Now get your confidence back ! And dont ever let anybody do that to you again, cause then your just letting them have the power, and it's not their's to have!
Again, terrific job!
WONDERFUL It's just beautiful. They will love it! All your cakes are WONDERFUL tha castle cake, If I could use just 1/2 of your talent I would be happy. ![]()
Now, a glass of Adut Beverage of choice. A hot bubble bath, and time to yourself.............You'll fell better!! I always do!!
It is truly beautiful, please don't doubt it for a moment. Just because some mean bridezilla does not have enough class and taste to adore your obvious talents, does not mean that the rest of the brides will be as tasteless. Anyone who could ever say negative things about your cakes clearly needs to get new glasses. Love your cakes, I do ![]()
It is sublime, and you managed to mimic a design yet put your stamp on it as well.
Trudi, you are incredibly talented with sugarpaste and cake!!! I know that you are discouraged after your recent bridezilla, but just try to put that behind you and keep making your beautiful creations! I love this most recent cake ... your rendition of Peggy Porschen's cake is GORGEOUS!!!! The bride is going to be absolutely thrilled with her beautiful wedding cake!!! Keep your chin up! ![]()
Your cake is beautiful! I just looked at your photos and you are very talented!!! Please don't let one person get you down. Hold your head high and be proud of all that talent and ability.
If you ever doubt how good you are then take a look at your photos. You have made some great cakes!!
I love your cakes. And this one is so spring like, I have to save this one in my favorites....
I think you did a very nice job on this cake. Just remember sometimes we just can't please everyone. I am sure that 99% of the orders you do, they are liked, there is nothing you can do about the other 1% that don't. I think the percentages speak for themselves.
Well, thank you everyone! The hated cake wasn't a wedding cake (thank goodness!), but a birthday cake - I'm sure many of you remember the Prada shoe cake saga
! Anyway OH just returned from Amsterdam and they loved it, and will recommend me to everyone
! Now I just hope it lasts for the next 13 days until the wedding - it's Madeira with alcohol syrup and 2 layers of fondant, so it should be fine - fingers crossed! We are going away on vacation tomorrow and won't be back until 2 days after the wedding, but she was desperate for me to make her cake (because no Dutch bakery would touch it, or do what she wanted!). Thanks for all your support - I'll try not to let one bad apple spoil the barrel ![]()
. I'm making another wedding cake whilst on vacation for our friends who are getting married on the 25th August - so no rest for me lol!
I saw the wedding cake and it is so awesome
I just had to go to your gallery. You are very talented and you should have loads of confidence
. Don't let one poor experience make you doubt yourself. We all know we can't please everybody and beauty is in the eye of the beholder...although there are a few beholders who are just plain blind ![]()
!
Relax and enjoy your vacation....I was going to say I can't believe you're doing a cake while you're on vacation, but it sounds exactly like something I would do

Well these are friends with whom I went to night classes with the guy in the UK to learn Dutch before moving here. They moved here a few months after me and went back to the UK last summer. They have 3 kids and another one on the way, so I'm thrilled that she has finally persuaded him down the aisle lol! She will be 7 1/2 months pregnant on their wedding day and told me she was going to make her own cake - now we both know she can't bake a cake to save her life and has never decorated one - so what was I to do. It will be our wedding gift to them and I'm happy to do it, I can do whatever I want, so I'm going with elegant simplicity. I baked the fruit cakes in June, so all I have to do when I get to my parents house (where we are staying), is marzipan, ice and decorate them. I'm also doing my nephews a joint birthday cake whilst I'm there as we are never in the country for their birthdays
!!! Even though my business is blossoming and I'm quite busy, I still get bored if I don't have at least one cake a week to do - so these will give me my fix whilst we're away! ![]()
