I've decided to add the following to my contract:

Allery Disclaimer:
Unfortunately, Cakes by Cathy cannot cater to specific allergy restrictions. Please be aware that your cake may contain or have come in contact with one or more of the following ingredients: wheat, soybean, eggs, milk, and nuts/peanut oils. Additionally, it is the responsibility of the client to inform his or her guests of this fact. Cakes by Cathy cannot be held responsible in case of allgery attack or illness as a result of eating this cake.

Wording suggestions?

I think it sounds very professional. The only change I would make is to reposition or take out the word "illness". You could try " allergy related illness or attack." Just my opinion icon_smile.gif

I agree, maybe you could put "Cakes by Cathy cannot be held responsible in the event of an allergy attack or related illness as a result of eating this cake (or these baked goods if you make more than cakes?).

I think it sounds good regardless, but like the "in the event of"...don't know why haha. icon_smile.gif

maybe too late to add this but...

I personally make it a point to ask ahead of time, only because I have a firm understanding of many food alergies and can usually accomodate. I don't use eggs or milk in any of my recipes -always ask about nuts, etc. (I have had a few food sensitivities in the past that fortunately subsided after becoming pregnant) -- maybe I am overly cautious and a "people pleaser"...

However, I am still small-time, so that may not work for people who have very large volumes of orders. (increased cost, etc)
Just wanted to add my side to the equation. icon_smile.gif

Really should be the customers responsibility. My nephew is deathly allergic to peanuts & my sis & myself ALWAYS check everything he eats & that is actually why we started baking cause he couldn't eat desserts from bakeries & store. I can not believe that someone who has a child with allergies would not think to mention that or ask. How are you suppose to know that they have that problem. The first thing out of a parents mouth when ordering anything should be "Does this contain nuts?" I know it is for me & he isn't even my kid. That is my opinion anyways.
