I am thinking that maybe I might icon_redface.gif enter the wilton castle contest. I got on their site and read the rules. It says that everything has to be edible. Does that mean that I can't use dummy cakes? I was really hoping I could that way I could take as much time as I want and if I had to redo the fondant it wouldn't be that hard. If I can't I don't think I'll enter. To nervious/scared..I have never entered any contest before.
Thanks
Julisa

I would think a dummy cake would be considered a non-edible. Good luck with whatever you do!

I don't think it would really be able to tell since you aren't sending the cake TO them... you're just sending a photo in... but I will say I WON'T be entering because you HAVE to purchase the Wilton Castle Kit to do it... they won't let you enter unless it's made with that kit and I know that's how they make money on new products but really that's just rude lmfao (in a Stephanie Tanner voice lol)

I so agree with you on that. I was hoping and waiting for Hobby Lobby to have their 50% off cake decorating sale. I think they have it at least once a year. If not I probably won't buy it. If they had come out with it 3 years ago, I would have bought it. It would have been used at least 4 times.

I saw the castle kit at Hobby Lobby. I was not really impressed. It was kinda like the Mr Potato Head for Castle Cakes. But, Im not fond of the plastic cake decos. I did see a cake in the gallery using the Wilton Castle it looked really pretty.

Isn't the castle kit non-edible? I think the castles done by cc'rs on here that are all edible are way cuter than the ones in the Wilton book!

I say go and enter, why not, nothing to loose right?

I didn't even think about the castle kit being non edible. Wouldn't that not follow their rules? Now I am thinking that using dummy cakes would be all right.
Has anyone ever entered one of their contests and used dummy cakes?

I agree that the ones done here on CC that are COMPLETELY edible are way better looking. But the rules state you have to use the Castle Kit from them to build the cake you are going to enter...

I'd hate for you to go thru all that work and then they turn it down because you didn't follow the rules of using the kit... if you're going to "lose" I'd rather it be because of something else like someone else's cake was way better type thing ya know..

And no please don't take that the wrong way, I shoot myself and my work down constantly. But if someone tells me they have faith in me I will go ahead with it just to see if I can actually do it.. or to prove them wrong if they are like my mom and think I can't do it lmao...

Now if my mother had said I couldn't make it work and it wouldn't look right and I wouldn't stand a chance winning that.... I'd go out and buy the kit and make the cake and enter the contest... but she knows nothing about it lmao icon_wink.gif

I think you have the talent and the skill... grab the kit and enter the contest icon_wink.gif Just think ya may have orders for it after you have a photo for your portfolio icon_wink.gif

It does say however under their contest rules that everything must be edible with the exception of the castle pieces and cake boards and pillars etc., .. but I still think you should enter, your work is wonderful!

Well thanks to all. I did go back and re-read their rules. It did say everything edible except the kit, board, etc...
If I do enter I will have to re-thing my origial Idea. It would be hard for me to cook a 15" hexagon cake in my tiny oven. I guess that isn't so bad, less is more.
Now I have to talk my hubby into letting my buy everything I need to make this cake.
Thank you again for encouraging me.
