When covering cake dummies with fondant, do you have to put something on before the fondant?

I put this in the wrong forum and can't figure out how to change it. Sorry.

No, I just dampen the styrofoam with water first & then apply the fondant.

We cover our dummies in crisco so the fondant sticks betters and doesn't rip on the edges.

would you use the same method if you wanted to reuse the dummy?

This is kinda along the same topic, if you are using a dummy level on a wedding cake how far in advance can you cover it and still have it look good? Oh and I was covering it in buttercream

So you can just rub some crisco on the dummy? What if your dummy keeps "shedding"? Each time I pick it up, it seems to keep shedding more styrofoam bits of itself.... I'm using that green styrofoam - it's the only kind I could get quickly in a half-ball shape.

What about attaching the dummy to the cake board? I covered my cake board in fondant and now I need to attach the dummy - how can I do that?

In our cake decorating class at my culinary school we first wrap our dummys in plastic wrap. Then attach them to our turntable with a bit of tape. After this we cover them with buttercream like the usual crumb coat and then cover with the fondant. It works well.

Then to save the dummy for another use we simply remove the fondant, plastic and all. The dummy is then cleaned and ready.

Cakes are much easier to frost for me than dummies because of the weight of the cake.

I hope this helps.
