I finally figured out how to tint my fondant black, and so now I'd like to know if anybody has any idea's on the best way to put it toghether.

I have to make 2 soccer ball's on a lady's body (bikini top) Customer wants the 5 sided black patches to be fondant along with the white patches. Should I make the patches before or after I lay the fondant on the cake?

I'm a little confused. Are you having two layers of fondant, one layer covering the cake and the 2nd being the hexagons??? You really should only have to cover the cake with a light layer of buttercream and then place the black and white hexagons one by one on the cake. Place them one by one and butt them up together to make a good tight fit. Don't try to place ALL the black or ALL white on first.
Let me know if this answered your question. Good luck and I hope this was a question for a future cake so that this info reached you in time.

I agree that you should be able to do it in one layer as long as your buttercream is THIN. if you put it on too thick it will bulge out between your hexagons. If your buttercream doesnt crust make sure its cold, too.

I agree put it together like its a puzzle.. one piece at a time using the buttercream as your glue.. it should fit together nicely.. If the rest of your body is fondant then I would "glue" the piece indivually into place but still place them in a puzzle fashion HTH..

When I made my last soccer ball (in my gallery) I cut out a template for each of the shapes I needed and then used to templates to cut out the fondant pieces. I completely covered the cake in buttercream and then placed the fondant shaped on the ball. If the buttercream crusts before you get all of the fondant on you can just brush the back of the fondant piece lightly with water or a small smear of buttercream.
