Thank you all so much for your help.
In the end, I did use a block of cake and covered it. The bride and groom were only made from the waist up. And I had some teeny-tiny chocolate nibs which were covered in red candy which I used to 'fill' the box to look like packing.
The bride and groom were thrilled with the cake!
