I am not sure why it is cracking. Possibly you rolled to too thin, but I do know that if you use crisco to roll it out, it keeps the fondant moist. I make my own Marshmallow Fondant on the site. It works really well and tastes so much better than the wilton stuff.

Sounds like you will need to strip off the fondant and recover you cake. A few suggestions: 1) If you are using the Wilton Fondant, keep your hands greased with shortening and grease the surface you are working on, then knead the fondant like bread dough till it feels soft and pliable. Keeping your hands and work surface well greased will work the shortening into the fondant. Sounds like the fondant was dry. 2) Fondant needs to be placed over a freshly iced cake for it to adhere to the cake well. 3) If the fondant is rolled to thin, it can tear easily, but if rolled really thick, the weight of it will make it tear and fall off a cake.
I don't know why yours fell off, but hopefully these tips will help you re-do it where the fondant will stay on the cake. I love the MMF recipe here on CC. Good Luck to you!

I made my flower pot cake with wilton's fondant too (didn't know about any other kind at the time)and I refrigerated mine until it was firm before flipping it over, then kept it in the fridge until about an hour before it was served.......maybe that made a difference?

This is the recipe that I use. I add a 1/4 cup of shortening to help keep it pliable. Works really well. Then use crisco on hands and mat when rolling. Should work good.

Also, make sure you do not have too much frosting as your base coat and moisten the back of the mmf to get it to stick!

Let us know how it goes!
