baking? I dread baking but always love decorating. Am I the only one who feels like this?
I love baking, especially new recipes. Love decorating. Reeeaaalllly dread making buttercream. Crisco grosses me out. I feel like it stays on my skin and face for days.
The baking I like; I love the decorating; it's just the cleanup I hate!!!
me too!! I ran my dishwasher 6 times in 2 days last week JUST so I wouldn't have to hand wash any dishes

maybe it's the clean up I hate ugh. I always love looking at the finished product
Nope.. I LOVE to bake.. 
I agree with hating the clean up though.. LOL. I love to decorate too, but I think the baking is very staisfying. To take flour and sugar and butter and all that lovely stuff and turn it into something delicious.. ahhhhh.. so nice.
No, I like baking. I sometimes think it's really cool to think how a couple ingredients mixed together can form a cake or something like that.
(Plus I really enjoy playing with my KA mixer !!)

I was just talking to dh about the exact same thing last nite. I had 3 cake orders with a total of 10 cakes to decorate (a total of 12 cakes to bake) this week ( a graduation, a birthday and a sweet 16 monster of a cake - I'll post pics tomorrow) and he asked me if I still liked doing this.
I had to stop and think - I like the finished flavor of my cakes and icings (no, not conceit at all 
) but I really don't care to mix them up - I think it might be all the mess too. I do love to design the cakes and stand back and stare at the finished product in amazement - Yea, I DID THAT!
So, I guess its a toss up for me.

I absolutely dread/hate "baking" but love cooking. I would much rather make fillings than bake cakes but I LOVE DECORATING. It's no secret. I didn't get into this to bake...it's just a part of it. I got in it to decorate. And when I can make the big $$$, I will pay someone to bake for me and make my buttercream icing. LOL LOL. 
JMO....don't shoot me.
I was thinking the same thing yesterday! I HATE baking but LOVE decorating too!
I made my fish cake yesterday and it took me three takes to get the cake baked right - the first one was fine, but crumbled because I moved it too soon, the second too crumbly, the third worked out fine.
I was saying to my husband last night "I now know why Duff has someone bake for him!".
I don't like baking when it takes ALL DAY to bake the cakes needed. But if it's a few, then it's okay.
I sound crazy don't I. When I say cook, I mean like pasta and sauces, omelets and pancakes (yeah, those cakes I like) LOL but I do hate baking...even biscuits.
I thought I was the only one-- hate the baking -measuring, separating eggs, beating & beating & beating, greasing and flouring pans, waiting for the dang timer to go off, waiting for the cakes to cool, waiting for the cakes to settle....waiting....waiting....waiting....
THEN I GET TO START DECORATING--YIPEE!!!
Yep, in my next life I'll be rich and can afford to hire the baking done for me--just call me when it's time to decorate!!
I love to bake and cook!! Got that love from my grandma. I'm beginning to love decorating too - as I get a little better and a little more confident!!
I love the design phase of decorating - those colored pencils from my kids bottom drawers come in real handy!!LOL!!
I just bought my first set of Magic Line pans and after only one baking know that I love them!! I love my KA's also (I have 2). But I absolutely, positively WORSHIP my DISHWASHER!! When its a heavy baking and decorating week that precious piece of equipment will be ran sometimes twice a day - I refuse to battle crisco in the sink when my dishwasher will just swipe it right off and throw it out the drain!!

I was spoiled at my previous occupation. By the time the cakes got to me, they were baked, filled, trimmed and ready to go! All I had to do was ice, decorate and assemble. You know, the really fun part!
*sigh* I miss those days.
But it is well worth it to pay my assistant, usually my 15 year old, to load the dishwasher and clean counters and sweep/mop.
I love to bake, experimenting with new flavors and such. But I prefer to bake pastries, yeast breads and fancy tarts and things that don't require much decoration.
I usually bake and make icings/fillings on the same day or two, then tackle decorating on another day, when I'm fresh and can enjoy it the most.
Actually I like the baking part, the designing part, the decorating part, but I hate putting it all together, and having to make my icings and fillings. I double tort every cake so every bite is good but I really don't like doing it. Because of the time it takes to make my fillings, tort and fill all my cakes, by the time I get to where I can decorate, I'm exhausted and often don't want to even look at the cake anymore. It's sad but I usually enjoy the end product anyway and can't wait for my next one. We are a weird breed....
I hate the mess baking makes the dust from flour and sugar is TERRIBLE , I've always prefered to cook, but I love detail work so that's why I decorate. I think when I become rich and famous I'll hire someone to bake for me and make the messy frosting so I can just decorate.....................hahahahaha
I love it all.
I really enjoy taking basic ingredients and turning them into something delicious. And then I love taking the cake and making them into something beautiful as well.
I can't count the number of times I've gone to an affair and my mouth would water looking at the cake only to have it taste like cardboard or canned filling when I've finally gotten my piece.
I do what I do so that people can enjoy how their cakes look and then enjoy how they taste too.
I'm with the "hate baking and cleanup crow", LOL. I love the planning, and decorating phase, I even like making the fondant and frosting, it's just the baking the cake part. Taste is extremely important to me, and when I was making cakes, I made sure they tasted good, lol, even if I was dragging my feet about baking them. (I've since had some nerve damage to my right hand; I'll be so glad when it finally comes back and I'm able to decorate again).
The best part is I don't have to gain weight from eating the goodies. I get compliments and cash instead.

I too enjoy baking, but I absolutely hate making icing. Remember the episode of Ace of Cakes when they were arguing over making the royal icing and poor Geoff finally got stuck doing it! I dream of the day I have someone that I can designate as my icing maker!
I do believe I hate washing dishes more than just about anything! I luckily have the best grandma in the world who comes over when I am really swamped and washes all of the dishes for me !

have to totally agree w/you on this one. i'm a spaz in the kitchen so i always have a REALLY BIG mess to clean up! i swear it feels like it takes me longer to clean than the baking & decorating put together.
