I am going to try to make the dora cake below. Any ideas about how to do the swirled background? Any help would be very much appreciated. Thanks in advance!! icon_biggrin.gif

I can only assume the swirl background is airbrushed on. A light coverage of blue over the whole cake and then a concentrated spray in the swirl pattern.

It looks like maybe it was airbrushed before all the other stuff was added.

If you don't have an airbrush, you could probably mark a line in your buttercream and them sprinkle colored sugar along the line... Just a thought!

Definetely looks like air brush, but maybe you can use blue piping gel.

If you don't have an airbrush, you can use the Wilton color mists . . . they work well for stuff like that! I use them occassionally since i don't have an airbrush (yet)icon_smile.gif and I like the way they turn out!

Definitely airbrushed! If you don't have one, you could also make a swirl pattern with buttercream! Let it crust over then flatten it a little with a VIVA papertowel over it! It would look just as nice!

I agree that it looks like it was airbrushed.

Here's another idea you might want to try. Do it as a FBCT. I did a Hello Kitty cake that has colorful stripes on it and I did it as aFBCT.

You can try the canned color mist but you might have to tape something on to keep the mist in a narrow line. It is possible though.
