Ideas On A 3-D Rooster...templates Anyone??

Hello everyone, I was approached by a Groom getting married next friday, and he said if I can do a 3-D rooster for him....(picture attached)..I was wondering does anyone have a template or can anyone help me out what I should do for the base. If possible not anything to do with welding for I will bring my shop down to crumbly bits..lol!! Shout out to Doug....maybe you have a brilliant idea you can help me with?? Thank you guys I truly appreciate your time in reading this and helping me out!! Have a lovely day. I should be feeding around 35 guests. And can anyone help me out how I should do the tail feathers??
boy --- aren't you all glad I'm on summer vacation?! (and avoiding all the housework I should be doing? )
ok, how's this:
the red lines are WOOD boards
the blue lines are LARGE (like 1/2 in or even 3/4) wood dowels
light blue lines are cardboard cake boards
green lines are typical dowels use to internally support a cake.
yellow shaded areas are cake.
the green shaded area is styrofoam, carved and glued to bottom of the top wood board.
the large dowels are SCREWED into both the top and bottom board
cake boards would be shaped to contour of body at each level -- most would be some type of oval.
would screw them to bottom board first.
place first layer of cake over them
add small support dowels
then cardboard cakeboard (holes precut to fit over large dowels
next layer of cake
then add top wood board and screw into place
then cake
then support dowels
then cakeboard
then last layer of cake for head
glue one foam
attack w/ carving knife!
the use of the wood boards and screwed in place dowels is what allows the cantilever construction for the head area.
tail feathers -- individual gumpaste one wires (sort of like giant size lilly petals) then wires grouped and tacked to bottom board -- could add a dowel to help support them (screw dowel in place)
---
well that's my best guesstimate of how to do it.
----
copper tubing w/ flanges could be substituted for the large dowels.
what if you made the rooster laying down? That way you can make him out of the rubber ducky pan???
then you could avoid a lot of the inner support and just make the tail feathers and cockscomb out of rice paper???
sorry Doug, I like to keep things as simple as possible! lol
sorry Doug, I like to keep things as simple as possible! lol
understandable!
just doing what groom asked for -- a 3D cake...
obviously, we've got a lot of secret Duff/Ace of Cakes out there who are going to be expecting all of us to do this more and more!!!
no, not flat laying down...you know..sitting..sorry.
Then you can use the 3-D rubber duckey pan!! and proceed as before..lol
Just like a man, selective reading ...rotf
wow!!! doug you are just fabulous!!! hahhha i was just going to suggest using the 3d duck mold and just carving from that!!!!!!
OMG DOUG YOU ARE FABULOUS!!! I JUST THOUGHT HERE PUT A WOODEN BOARD HERE...LOL!! BUT THANK YOU SOOOOOOO MUCH!!!!!
ok ---- I just had a totally out in left field thought --
make a silicone mold of the rooster -- 2 halves and then bake it up and glue together w/ chocolate!
see this site for flex-mold silicone that could be used!

How about the doll pan and trim it to form the body/ For the legs pretzel rods. Put a block of foiled card board under it's belly to keep it from falliing. Or you could use rice krispie treats to form the legs and that would make it a little more sturdy?

haha...now I'm getting confused...I don't know what to do!! Thats a good thing though I went from not knowing what to do.....to having a couple of options!!!!
Holy Moly, that's gonna be a heck of a cake.
What great ideas.
Can't wait to see photos.
I am so nervous!!!!! I'm thinking of going a little simple and just using the duck pan with some support on the bottom for the feet. What do you think??
Check out this cake in the gallery. It's done with a hen, but I bet you could pm the creator & ask where she got her mold. They may just have a rooster. My sister raises poultry & I may make her a cake similar to this one for her bday.

Here's a discussion in the forums & a really cute rooster using the duck pan.

If you do find a mold, please let me know.
Good luck!

do what you feel comfortable and confident with
and don't forget to have fun doing it.
Aw thanks Doug...I just feel like I might do something wrong..lol!! Yes I do have to have fun. I can't wait to show you guys the end result. I'm thinking of using the duck pan and a sheetcake in the bottom (cut in half for the feet and corn. And maybe a wooden board to support the actual "rooster".
AW THANX GUYS YOU KNOW I WISH I CAN SAY I KNOW WHAT I DID WRONG AND WHAT I COULD HAVE WORKED ON BUT YOU KNOW WHAT.....I WON'T DO THAT.....I WORKED MY HINNY OFF AND IT TURNED OUT GREAT!! I REALLY APPRECIATE THE SUPPORT...SEE YA GUYS!!
