Imbc And Luster Dust

Can I use luster dust on IMBC? I've only used it on fondant before, so I wasn't sure how it would work on IMBC (or SMBC). I usually just mix the luster dust with vodka and brush it on fondant...would it work the same way with IMBC?

Yes, you can use the luster and pearl dusts on the IMBC but you need to let it set and crust first. Mix it pretty thin with the vodka or whatever you are using. It looks really pretty on the scrollwork...I'm sure it will look good on any design using the IMBC.

Thanks sumer. My IMBC doesn't crust though. Can I still use it the luster dust on it? Or do you have a IMBC that does crust? Then I could use the paper towel method on it too!

Is there an IMBC that crusts? I would love to see the recipe. I have wanted to use luster dust on my IMBC but could never figure out how to make it work.

IMBC doesn't crust.


I would think in order to get luster dust to work you would have to freeze the cake for a while until the icing hardens. Then paint it.

Thanks everyone. I didn't think IMBC crusts, but I don't always know everything. (Just usually! icon_biggrin.gif haha) I guess I'll either have to make a grey cake or just use regular crusting buttercream.

You can airbrush luster and pearl dusts on IMBC. If you use a paint brush your cake has to be ice cold and you will leave paint brush strokes behind.
