Many business hold gingerbread house competitions. The Ritz Carlton in Half Moon Bay had a real nice one last year and there's also one in Napa. Various cake clubs hold competitions, usually in conjunction with their Day of Sharing. Most of the county fairs have a cake decorating competition. Some require that you be a resident of the county, others don't. The California Cake Club holds an annual cake contest in San Diego.
