I am going to be using a scroll cutter for my first wedding cake (ack! I am nervous!). Anyway I have been practicing with it for a little while and I was wondering if there were any tricks to getting the fondant out of the cutter with out distorting it. It has some small areas and if I pull it out it stretches or breaks. I have tried pushing it out from the other side, but it makes an impression. I am getting a little better at it, but I just want this to be as least aggravating as possible LOL! Please help

try rubbing the cutter edge with some shortening

or try dusting it with cornstarch.

That can help prevent the fondant from sticking to the cutter. you can try pushing with a soft paint brush. It doesn't leave a strong mark.

I dust both cutter and paste with cornstarch before cutting out the pieces. Rub your fingers against the back side of the cutter to clean out the excess paste. That also helps the cut piece release easier from the cutter.

okay thanks ! I will try again! Does adding any gumpaste help at all? they suggested it, but I wasnt sure if it was more for moving it around after it was cut. The all fondant ones seemed to stiffen up a bit just air drying, so I think I could move them around.

I second the shortening for the sticking problem. May I ask where you purchase the scroll cutter? I have been looking for one for a while now.
