Hi! I needed to make some black MMF to make a darth vader cake. I found that after you microwave the marshmallows, add the color paste at that time, before the sugar. Worked well for me, good luck!

MMF takes color very easy.
I tinted some MMF with black about a month ago and had no problems with kneading the color in after I had mixed everything together.
If you are going to knead the color in, wear examination gloves- you know the kind you see in first aid kits or the ones you see doctors, nurses, EMT's wearing. You can buy a box of 50 at Walmart for under $5. I wear them when I am adding color to my icing (no more colored fingers), when I am kneading out MMF (nothing sticking to my hands in case I have to answer the phone), when I am mixing up ground hamburger meat and then shaping into hamburger patties, and I also wear them when I am putting meat onto the grill. I use them so much in the kitchen that I keep a box of them in there because it is easier that way.

Over where they keep the band-aids, neosporin, and hydro-peroxide in. Usually buy the pharmacy.
Your welcome!

THe only colors I've used are the wilton ones and you have to use a whole lot to get deep colors. Brown, black or red not very good. I ordered a set of 12 of americolor and I'm hoping they work much better. I'm a MMF fanatic and will like to make it in different bright colors.

Just to add on one more thing. The reason I add the black right out of the microwave is that it requires much less colorpaste (I use Wilton) and you don't have to worry about getting it all over your hands! It's MUCH easier than having to knead it in later.

This will be my first time making MMF... I'll need all the luck I can get.
Thanks for the advice ladies...I use Wilton colors too.... I want to try the powdered colors if I can find them...I might have to just order them online...no one seems to carry them around here.
Thanks again ladies.

Thanks for the tip! I tinted MMF black recently and it took a long long time to knead it in!

I just experienced this on Sunday. I was trying to tint some MMF with Wiltons No Taste Red, and boy did it take a lot...Funny thing is, I thought about putting the coloring in when I melted the mellows...Glad you said that Rexy..I'm gonna try that for sure this weekend...

After I left my fondant rest a little on the counter....about 1/2 hr. or so.... I sectioned it in pieces to tint my colors... I did one dark grey, moss green, leaf green, tan, and a lighter moss green.....they all took the color really nice.... maybe it's harder to color it after it's refridgerated???
But I'm thinking that this is a really nice fondant to work with...
Will let you know...

Cakegal,

Are you using the recipe from CC? That's the one I use and yes, it is wonderful working with it.
