how long can a cake go in the refridgerator before going bad?

It might depend on if it's home made or from a box. I've made a cake from box mix and have had it for a week. I don't know if I would trust it after a week. Also, I think if it has whipped cream icing or a pudding filling, it should probably be eaten within 3 days or it may get runny/watery.

I find that chocolate cakes last longer than vanilla/yellow/white cakes.
I would say 5 days max for chocolate. A little less for vanilla.
