This may be a dumb question, but what are the measurements for a 1/2 sheet cake?

It depends on who you ask, some people consider an 11x15 a half and others a 12x18.
If figure what size cake to make based on servings needed.

I use my 11x15 for half of a sheet.. If you were to buy a half of sheet at your local grocery store.. It may look bigger than 11x15.. BUT their cakes are not layers, they only have one cake layer.. so when you make 11x15 with 2 layers, I'm more than sure it will be the same as the grocery store cake if you were to lay both layers sided by side vs stacking and filling.. does this make sense????

True....an 11x15 is my 1/2 sheet size, and my local bakery also uses an 11x15, but some consider 12x18 to be their 1/2 size. I'm trying to get away from referencing them as 1/4, 1/2, full, etc., and go only off how many servings they need.

My standard answer: I refuse to use the terms "half", "full", "quarter" when referring to sheet cakes.

Someone asks me "how much is your half sheet?" and I will reply with "how many people are you needing to feed?" then I tell THEM what size cake they need. you'd be surprised at the range of answers .... anywhere from 15 to 60. Even THEY don't know how big a half sheet is ... they're just using the "lingo" and they've no idea what they need.

When I'm feeling a little bit**y (hmmm... imagine that! icon_cool.gif ), I'll reply to their question with a puzzled look on my face, "What size cake IS that?" It's funny to try to watch THEM figure it out or explain that they've no idea! icon_lol.gificon_lol.gif
