I asked this yesterday but did not really get a lot of responses so I am trying again - there are just too many serving size charts out there and I don't know which one to use. I am doing a wedding cake this weekened to serve 200 (round) according to one chart I saw the 18x14x10x6 will serve 202 another said 216 and then one said 250. What does the chart you use say? or should I just go ahead and use these sizes? or does someone have better idea of what sizes to use where the cake will still look uniform in pan size difference? thank you so much
From what I understand this chart accounts for larger slices than wilton's... It seems to be pretty popular here...http://www.earlenescakes.com/ckserchart.htm

This is the chart I use. It is based on indydebi's cutting method. I really like it and find it to be true to it's word.
Going by this.. your cake breaks down like this.. 6" - 14 servings, 10" - 34 servings, 14" - 70 servings, 18" - about 128 servings (I've never made a cake this big but I just drew it out and that is what I got). So you have 240 servings at least.. fo course this assumes 4" tiers.. HTH's
that is where I am getting conflicted - the serving chart here on cc says it would serve about 232 (without top tier) and earlene's site says it would serve 210. should I just go ahead and go with this size just to be safe?
What you need to do is figure out which serving chart you want to use and stick with it. Without the top tier you are looking at 225 servings by the chart I use (probably a few more since I have no real experience with an 18" cake). is the cake beign served by a caterer or by you or by a family member? That might help you figure it out what to do. Ask the caterer how they cut the cake.. if they use a chart then you can use that one if you wanted to. If you cut the cake you have control over the servings so it's not as big a deal.. if it's a family member you will have to show them how to cut it to ensure the proper amount of servings.
I chose the chart I did because it makes it very easy to visualize serving sizes and it's easy to cut them the way indydebi does.. much easier than the circle method for sure! I'd say that you will be more than safe with the sizes you are planning to use. ![]()
