I made the below cake (idea from Wilton yearbook) and have been asked to make it again for my niece, however, she would like Mickey and Minnie! Now, they only need to feed 30 people, so obviously, two of them is WAY TOO MUCH cake! I would like to make this cake again, however, make the head of rice crispie treats because it has to travel an hour and a half and that chocolate head is REALLY heavy and will melt....and I would like to make one side look like Mickey, and the other like Minnie! My Mom thought it was a tacky idea....but I think it would really be unique! What do you think?

IMO - I'd stick with just Minnie, just to not overdo it. I like your idea though, just think it might get to be a bit much.

Mickey is so cute by the way!!!! Makes me want to go to Disneyworld RIGHT NOW!

I think that sounds like a great idea. Very different too. Your Mickey cake came out darling! Was it hard?

Do you have to have a pattern for it? I would love to try it out. Looks like you may need a Mickey pan though. I would have to buy that.

Why not? I have seen this done in the Wilton book using a doll pick one side was a princess the other a witch. I don't think it would be tacky for a childs birthday cake. Go for it. And have fun with it. PS take pixs please.

I am not sure about the split personalities thing. Might be kinda creepy. But I did read about using styrofoam shapes inplace of cake to lighted up toppers...just a thought for making his head!

I made stuff for cakes out of rice krispie treats and it does work well.....but sometimes it can start to loose it's shape when it gets warm.........I would be afraid this might happen to mickey/minnie's head.......what about making the head out of a styrofoam ball and cover it in fondant??? it wouldn't be edible but at least it would be sturdy for the long ride..........if you don't think it will be too hot though go for the r.k. treats......kids love them!!! oh and btw I don't think the two face idea is tacky at all.....I think it sounds really cool and the mom will probably appreciate not having to pay for two separate cakes that will go to waste! Although I wonder if you just eliminated the bottom cake if the two wonder mold pans (I'm guessing that's what you used) would be enough for 30 servings without too much excess! Maybe you could have them sitting on a higher cake board

cambo....

I think its an adorable idea...especially if she wants both Mickey and Minnie....I did a two sided cake for the twins bday ....one side cars and the other spongebob....my husband and all looked at me cross eyed when i suggested a two sided cake (because we didnt need too much cake).....but i the end it turned out very cute!!! and was the perfect idea for them!!

p.s......I LOVE your 3D spongebob he was my original cake plan that and a 3d car ...but it was going to be too much cake! thumbs_up.gif

Thank you all for your great ideas! I think I will make a styrofoam head....don't know why I didn't think about the rice crispie treats melting! It's supposed to be hot tomorrow and I'm sure it will get too soft.

Yes, it will be one head and will look just like Mickey pictured in my photo, but when they spin the cake around on the carousel it will be Minnie on the other side....they will share arms (have different hands, of course) and each will have their own set of legs! I think I'm going to give it a whirl and I'll post a pic tomorrow when I get it finished!

Thank you all so much!
