I am getting ready to use my chocolate molds for the first time. Do I coat the molds before I pour the chocolate in?

No, you don't coat them, just make sure you have washed them in warm soapy water and dry thoroughly. When you pour the melted chocolate and allow to cool, and harden they will pop out and be shiny.
I was always told that if you wash the candy molds with soap that it removes the "film" that is on them and eventually makes it harder for the chocolate to pop out. I rinse mine under very hot water and once they are dry I store them in ziplock bags. Just make sure that they are completely dry before you use them again. Water and chocolate hate each other.
Gosh, I have been washing my molds in dishwashing soap & water since 1978 & have many of the same molds since then. Never had a problem.
I throw mine in the dishwasher! Never have had a problem yet. Maybe I need to rethink the dishwasher and do it by hand........... I just hate more work!

If I am molding chocolate with them, I do not grease them. If I mold fondant with them, I either brush with Crisco or spray with pan spray.
