I had my first gumpaste class today...(so much fun, BTW) and I got to thinking about someone actually eating the flowers on cakes.

Can you really eat them? What do they taste like? icon_rolleyes.gif

Anytime I have any type of fondant, colorflow, or RI on a cake people eat them right up...(even Wilton fondant icon_eek.gificon_eek.gif ). It seems like #1 alot of work to have someone chomp on and #2 there is alot of "handling" and chance of it getting germs or whatever on it and not being very sanitary. If it is "edible" the people I know want to eat it.

Anyone??

Many flowers are constructed on wire, making them decorations only, to be removed before cutting.

Otherwise, people do sometimes eat the gumpaste flowers. They don't taste bad.

I always thought gumpaste smelled bad and I couldn't imagine wanting to eat it.

I have some who like my MMF and others have commented that they don't want to eat cake and "chew gum" at the same time.

I find that the fondant isn't bad if it is rolled thin like on my cheeseburger cakes, because it really blends in with the BC and becomes soft.

I've heard both you can eat gumpaste and that you can't. However, they do have nutritional information on the back on the gumpaste bags, so I guess you can consume it, although, my guess is that it does not taste very good. icon_razz.gif
