I don't think it's really going to save much money, it's about $1.30 a wilton serving for the fake cake. I didn't really look at what they're charging for shipping so I didn't add that in.
Then you still have to buy your sheets. It would be cheaper to go to Walmart and just buy the wedding cake.
Pretty smart if you ask me!!!Ebay is the biggest online selling market so for those who think it is silly.....Hmmm Money!!! Dummy cakes are not cheap either.Styrofoams,fondant is expensive ...decorating time etc...Faux cakes have been around forever here and no one says boo!!!I personally wouldn't want one but if that's what the bride wants...she gets!! Her money is as good as everyone else's.JMHO..
Trent I think you should read back some of the posts as not everyone was against the idea and no one said anything bad about the person themselves also I think if the person selling them reads these posts well then she is getting feedback from both nay's and yeah's and that is good for business so you can have an idea what people are thinking. Also whats wrong with having a forum where we can debate the pro's and con's of new things out on the market? All I see on this thread are honest opinions.

I don't have a problem with this type of business, I think it would be a life saver for many a bride that wants a beautiful tierd cake at their wedding but cannot afford it! Also, Ebay is a great marketing tool, that has been proven many times over......but, I can't believe someone would actually use another baker's picture to advertise....I say everyone is entitled to making money honestly.....let's keep the integrity in entrepreneurism

Wow! This makes this story a whole new bailiwicks. As I said before about the brides--to each her own. This seller is completely out of line using this photo without permission. Totally deceptive.

Surprisingly, it's a very common practice here. Only difference is, our cakes look WAAAAAAY tackier. 
Are we sure "Maisie" isn't the one also ebaying? Hmmmm maybe she and friends are into offering another way of buying a cake. Who knows!!!

So to summarise... the lucky 'winner' has no guarantee they'll get a cake finished to the same standard - this might just be a scam, scam, scam, because no cake-maker or decorator really worth their salt would pass another's picture off as their own work, would they?
And to top it all off, by the time Fedex has added its 'creative input' - heaven only knows what would arrive at the other end. Surprise!!!!!!!!!
You never know, Maybe Maisie has a friend in Canada. 
Is it an auction or it is something just listed and you get it for $100? People directly sell on ebay.
The issue of using someone's pic is a whole other issue, but as far as using a fake cake...there are several websites out there now that offer this. I can completely see where there is a market for it. I have lots of brides who use several fake cakes in addition to the real tiers just to have a huge cake. It really doesn't save them any money, as I still charge almost as much for them and they have to return the dummies. I did recently have a bridezilla who just assumed her fake cake layers were free

My younger sister is probably getting married next year and we have already discussed that I will probably do a mostly fake cake for her and do sheet cakes for the kitchen. She and I both want her to have a huge fabulous cake, but I don't want to spend all of my time working on cake and not spending it with her during her special time!

That was my exact situation 2 months ago...dummy cake was gorgeous...1 tier was real...NOBODY knew the difference....photos are fabulous.
Also...What if you're getting married outdoors in August in Florida? I think a dummy will hlod up much better than a real cake.
What if you are a florist who wants a dummy cake for a display? Ebay sounds like the right place to visit.
I admire this entrepreneur as I have thought of doing this myself. I don't think my cakes look tacky.
Last point...a bride doesn't wake up with longer eyelashes and perfect skin....she is made up to look that way. From the dress...to the limo....to the flowers....to the nails on her fingers.....

When I first looked at the eBay site I was sitting here with my mouth hanging open....now I'm thinking, hmmm, that might not be a bad business idea. "Rent" out the fake cakes and sell sheet cakes. Although I do totally agree with the post about it being wrong to use someone else's picture to sell your stuff on eBay!
This is not actually the only "fake food" I have ever seen, either. In Country Marketplace magazine they sell all kinds of fake food for display, such as sweet rolls, small cakes, chocolate dipped strawberries, etc.
At least you wouldn't have to worry about it melting at an outdoor wedding!

Exactly Adven -- it's all fake!! I have directed a lot of weddings, been in a lot of weddings, had a couple myself , and of course, made a lot of wedding cakes and they are full of "fake stuff." My dad once said that weddings are all smoke and mirrors!!
I don't necessarily think I personally would want to buy one of of Ebay, but I think it is brilliant marketing.
