Rolled Buttercream & Royal - Bad Combo

Just thought I'd share a lesson I learned this weekend-rolled buttercream and royal icing don't play well together. ![]()
I covered cookies in rolled buttercream and then outlined in royal and the royal won't stick.
You just touch the cookie and the outline falls off.
Oh well- lesson learned.
Also, maybe note worthy-this is the 3rd cookie icing I've tried. I've tried Glace, Antonia's royal and rolled buttercream. The overwhelming favorite of everyone is almond flavored glace. Everyone agrees for looks-the rolled buttercream is the coolest-followed by royal and then the glace, but the glace wins for taste hands down. ![]()
I am surprised. I use this combo all the time for my cookies. I do make sure the rolled buttercream is not too greasy with a little conf. sugar or cornstarch. Perhaps that is the answer?

Thanks for the info- I haven't tried that combo yet but odds are I would have gotten there eventually! Which glace recipe do you use and does it dry enough to stack?
At the last bakery I worked in we used fondant to ice our rolled cookies- not the fondant you use to cover cakes, but the kind that comes in a bucket and you heat it a little to get it to a pourable consistancy. Worked great
! I have seen on the cookie board a lot of people use mmf to cover their cookies and it looks really awesome, have you tried that? I think royal would stick to it just fine. Thanks again for the heads-up!

is the glace supposed to be runny? mine was runny so i added more sugar but still seemed runny so i put in the fridge and used royal and fondant instead.
