So Excited!!!!! Wanted To Share!

Yesterday I went grocery shopping earlier then I normally do and had a chance to meet the lady that makes my roses for me in person, at the grocery store bakery department. She had asked me last time I ordered from her that next time I'm in there bring my portfolio with me and she'll take a break and check them out, well I forgot it lol. So I handed her my business card and told her that my website address is printed on there and if she has computer access she can view all of my work there. She smiled and said "Ok, do you do wedding cakes Becky?" I smiled and explained that we haven't started into that yet but are looking into it and I explained that I just made my first tiered cake and hubby had a picture of it on his cell phone so he showed her that and she fell in love! she was so excited about it and said it was so amazing and beautiful (my daughter's 8th birthday - Princess cake in photos the one I'm ever so proud of and obviously so is my husband lmao). She explained to me that "We have customers come in and request things we just can't do sometimes due to time restraints sometimes due to policy restraints and if you don't mind I'd love to pass your name and phone number on to them and they could order from you if you're available." I was just beside myself with joy, anxiety, happiness, etc etc etc and I told her I'd be delighted if she could do that for me and I'd greatly appreciate it although it may mean more work for her because I may need more roses then usual lol. She said one of these days she wants to sit down with me and teach me how to do them but I don't want to be rude or anything but her roses are kind of on the small side but still beautiful! I love them but they are smaller then what I want to do ya know... and I'm not sure how I'd make them bigger if I learned them so small lol. Anyway I just wanted to share my excitedness with you all lol. I'm just so excited because I think this is exactly what I'm needing right now to get my name out there and since I'm only allowed Word of Mouth advertising this is perfect! lol.
I noticed in the other store the other day a woman and her son were looking thru the cake book and he was looking for a specific design and they didn't have it needless to say they walked away and he was crying. I wanted so badly to walk over and give her my card but I was in bummy clothes and wasn't really in the best of moods to talk cake right then and there 
so I missed a great opportunity to get an outside the family circle customer lol... Oh well another will come soon I hope lol.
What do yall thinkn??? Have yall ever had a grocery store bakery refer people to you for things they couldn't fulfill? Do you think this will work out? Do you think I'll get new and more customers????

I still haven't "mastered" the rose yet it seems like it's easier for others lol I've got e-video's and DVD's and nothing helps lol... oh well sooner or later I'll find a real live human in my face teaching me lmao

Rules differ from state to state - I hope you don't get into health dept trouble if they do refere people to you.
As for her 'small roses' it might be the size of the tip she uses or she may not be using much pressure - both of which can make the rose bigger.
Good for you. We were just talking about how to get the ball rolling yesterday and I noticed this post today. WOW! Word of mouth is the best advertisement, getting a recommendation from the bakery should definitely bring you some business. Make sure you stop by again and give her some extra business cards. Really happy for you... always great to get what you need just when you need it.

if word of mouth is the only advertising that you can do, and I completely understand this, aren't you a little worried about giving out business cards? I'm in that boat also (word of mouth) and made up some cards but haven't given them out.

I used to work at a grocery store bakery in college, and they didn't do any carved cakes or specialty cookies. The management would refer customers to me all the time for certain things. Its a huge honor and thats wonderful that she beleives in you so much Just make sure that she doesn't get herself into a heap of trouble. I know some places are weird about "losing business" and stuff...
But I wish you the best of luck!!!

As far as business cards...
I have "business cards" but i don't have a business name on it or anything that would make it look like I was running a business. It just has my name and phone number. I give them to people that I've done cakes for and they have my info for future cakes.
I'm working on a website with all my cake & cookie pictures. I'll probably add that to the cards once it's up and running.

As for the advertising issues... here in MD in my county, the health department told me I may ONLY advertise by word of mouth, and I can't place flyers and such so this is word of mouth when someone else says here call her she can help you lmao.
As for the business cards I have some done up with my business name and all my info on it and a brief description of my business offerings and my phone number.
I planned on doing up some more cards with just my name, phone number, website link, and a brief description of what we offer without the business logo but I figured I have over 200 cards already printed up why waste the time and ink and money lol (I make my own). Plus I need the ink to print out some brochures, it was suggested to me that I visit some B&B's in my area and just outside my area with some samples and brochures so lol....
Also thanks for the comments on my website I've worked so hard on it to make it reflect the area we live in, it's really country living here lol everywhere you look is a corn field or soy bean field lol and it's really really country! Horses at almost every farm and man does it stink around here in the summer time lmao all the fields and farmers doing their fields.. man it's smelly lmao But I wanted that down home country feel to it and I've spent the last month working on it changing things and adding things and with the help and support of some great people here at CC I've been able to expand on my portfolio and offer a page of idea photos to show we we are able to do just haven't done yet lol.....
Anyway this is long lol thanks for your support and encouragement everyone!
