Hi ladies...
I just got an inquiry for my first potential wedding order. I told her my prices starts at $2 per slice including fondant, just depends on how difficult the design would be. She replied that she likes a cake on cakes-plus.com that is a simple white cake w/ red roses all around the base of each layer but she wants it square instead. She wants it to feed 150 and said she would want a filling but will give that info later.
My questions are: what kind of info should I get from her for a contract first? ( are there any copies of contracts on here that I would be able to use for myself?) How much would this cake approximately cost? Do I put the flowers on the cake myself? Approximately how much of a deposit should I have her put down? And by how far in advance b4 her wedding date? If I do tasting for her how many flavors should I give her?
I'm sorry for all the questions but I am soo excited that this is my first wedding order so I want to get all my "homework" done ahead of time. =)
TIA!
I'm not at all experienced here but from reading everything ever written what I understand most people do
-for the contract get flavors of cake, filling, number of servings and design.
http://forum.cakecentral.com/cake-decorating-ftopict-354323-contract.html - multi linked thread on contracts
-since you quoted her $2 my guess would be approx. $300 unless you do fondant/bc roses..then more
-if the roses are around the base then I'm sure it's something you could do
-contract should be signed at least a month in advance
-3 flavours of both cake and filling for tasting
I give them 3 flavors to choose from the many I have. I have them to leave a 100.00 deposit to set the date. The rest to be paid in full before a month before the wedding so I don't have to worry about bounced checks. I charge a deposit that's refundable for any pillars and plates. I just made my own contract with name, address, so forth. Type of cake, style of cake, seperators or not ,type of flowers, and type of frosting stuff like that. The date, place of reception , time for the set up. Don't forget to put in there if they are having a fountain it is their job to have table set up by the outlet. I put everything in the contract clear so we know who is responsible for what. HTH
this design will require A LOT of roses. Be sure they are delivered to YOU the day before (or pick them up from the florist.) Florists are notorius for providing cake decorators much less than they need.
the cost of the roses is in addition to the cake.
minumum 50% deposit.
