So I was watching Ace of Cakes and they were working on the Gingerbread Train [for those who have seen it]. I saw cake dummies but they were green and it made me think of floral foam. Has anyone tried that for a cake dummy before? Shouldn't it be okay..nobody is eating the foam anyway and the icing and whatnot is just for looks or practice, etc..again not for eating.
What do you think??
I have used that kind of fuzzy floral foam before. NOT A GOOD IDEA! The icing doesn't adhere to it, and you end up with a buttercream and foam disaster! I then tried to cover it in fondant, and it slid right off!! Crazy Mess! I haven't used just the green styrofoam, so good luck, just wanted to warn you about the floral foam that usually comes in the package of 3 rectangles.
Floral foam sound tucky anyway, stick with dummies
I actually posted a new thread concerning the subject of cake dummies, and my disaster at trying to make my own.

Read it, don't try it!!
Subaru, thanks for sharing your....experience. I understand your thinking. I was pricing them at Dallas Foam and Taylor Foam and they are not expensive, really but I found it crazy that the shipping comes out to close to the cost of the dummies!
Oh, I compared getting the set of rounds at Taylor and getting the same individual rounds at Dallas and the price difference with shipping...? $0.09!!
I told my DH that I'm going to need to get some and he agrees--he's very supportive of my cake decorating--he's not thrilled with the time I spend on CC but..
..oh well--I gotta learn and get inspired!
Thanks everyone!
