What do I do?!?! I have one of the Wilton Fondant Mats and I have put cornstarch down but it is still sticking! I even tried putting more CS down and rerolling....BAD idea! Now it tastes like cornstarch with a hint of sugar! GRRRRR!!! How do I get it to not stick?!?!
I would add more PS and I put Crisco on my hands when I'm mixing or playing with it. And when I roll mine out I use CS.I am new at this also but have never had any trouble!! Good Luck!!
Help this helps,
Stacy
I haven't tried the MMF, but when I roll out fondant I roll it out on a crisco coated mat. As long as you coat it completely with a little crisco it will not stick. The best part for me is that you can pick the mat up, fondant and all and lay that over the cake then peal it way. No more sticking nails into the fondant trying to move it. ![]()
Thanks guys! I am going to try the Crisco, but not tonight.. to tired and frustrated. lol The MMF is the right consistancy and rolls just fine it is when I go to pick it up that the bottom stick to the mat. Man this can be so irritating at first! lol Good thing it is a stress reliever for me. hehe
range">I tried MMF for the first time the other night, and it kept sticking the surface! First I rolled it out on parchment paper, it stuck, I rerolled it with more PS. It still stuck the the PP! At that point, I was frustrated! I put alot of PS on the counter and rerolled it. It still stuck to the counter!!
I managed to move it from the counter to the cake. But not without alot of holes in the fondant! I covered the holes with polka dots and thank God I had enough fondant for them!!!
I completely forgot about the Crisco! That would of made it alot easier!!! ![]()

So funny! I think of decorating as a stress reliever as well, although when it is isn't going well and I am grumbling I am sure my family will disagree
Good luck, it will go better after a good sleep!
Well, I don't have any counter space so I use my floor freezer to do my work on. I was wondering, those of you who have the wilton mats, how do you keep them from sliding all over the place? I even used that rubbery shelf liner, and it still wanted to move all over the place.
I finally gave up and went out and bought a silpat to put on it. That thing sticks right to my freezer. It's great, but I would love to be able to use my wilton mat because it has the nice measurement circles on it.
any advice?
Sorry if I high jacked the thread, but all your comments reminded me of it.
I've had the same sticky issues, so I'm afraid I wouldn't be much help there. ![]()
Oh Holly, please do not feel bad for "high jacking"! lol I have been known to high jack a post or two. lol
Honestly I have NO clue how to keep the darn thing from sliding around all over the place. I pile HEAVY things on each corner of the mat and it still slides! lol I am about to go get that vinyl one of the pp talked about, tracing the measurments from the wilton mat onto it and use that. lol
great I'm trying MMF for the first time tonight. Great info to have ![]()
Ahh.. good solution..
Well, 'cept I can't find that vinyl everyone keeps talking about. Sadly, the walmart here seems to only have the type of vinyl that has cloth on the other side.. like a cheap upholstery.. haha I really don't think that would work. ![]()
Thanks for the response. I greatly appreciate it. I can hardly wait to try my fondant again.
Holly
