My friend says the best cake he ever had is a key lime cake that resembled a pie. There was a "crust" layer, middle layer and topping layer. He said the icing was like a key lime flavored buttercream. Does this sound familiar to anyone?
Sorry Zookeeper... I don't know the recipe but would LOVE to have it if anybody else does know one!! YUMYUM.
Sounds yummy! I've been looking for a good keylime cake recipe. I found a keylime cupcake recipe from the cakemix doctor that uses a keylime filling I might try to turn into a keylime cake - as soon as I find keylime juice! I'll let you know how it turns out.

Thanks everyone - he said it was a pie in cake form
. I told him if I cant find it I'll find an alternative. I would love the white cake with mousse filling recipe! I saved the other links already. My email is [email protected].
Thank you !
Hi Guys, this is not really the "pie type" you may be looking for, but it's dense & gooey good!
Key Lime Cake
1 box lemon cake mix (preferrably DH brand)
6 oz box lime jello
3/4 c orange juice
5 eggs
3/4 c oil
Mix cake mix & jello (the dry powder). Add OJ and mix thoroughly. Add 1 egg at a time beating well. Add oil & stir in thoroughly.
Grease & flour 3 9" pans. Bake at 350 for 20-30 min.
Frosting: 1 stick butter, 8 oz cream cheese, 1 box 4X, 1 t vanilla. Mix and spread between layers
Enjoy!

i just do the white cake mix in a box and the mouse is heavy whipping cream, powdered sugar, key lime juice, and a little green icing color.
fill mixing bowl about 1/3 way with heavy cream whip till almost done then add about 1 to 1 1/2 cups of powdered sugar and key lime juice to taste (a lot!) and a few drops of green to make a light green color and finish mixing.
I tried that Lime Mousse Cake (see "epicurious" link above), last week - and it was DELICIOUS! (My husband wants key lime pie every year for his b'day, and this was a little different, but sounded good). It's a no bake pie, similar to a cheesecake, but more fluffy (due to the added whipped cream!). I did add a little extra key lime juice, and boy, was it good. I thought it would make a nice cake filling, as it held up really well after a day or two of refridgeration.
Thanks for all the great ideas! I will post when I get to try one out-probably in the next week or two. ![]()
