Holy cow. I went to pick up my fair entry this morning. (The basket cake on a table). I knew I had won 1st place and Best in Show but when I picked up my entry there was another ribbon. I had won Judges Favorite and didn't even know. There were 3 stickers on my placement card but I couldn't read one of them. Guess that was it. Boy, am I excited! Just had to share.
Way to go!! I've come to the conclusion that basketweave just throws people -- they can't fiugre it out! Love your cake! (I'm entering another fair in August and think I am going to do basketweave again! Maybe a basket like yours...) Again, congratulations!!!
Well....it is obvious that you are an AMAZING artist! My goodness you do beautiful work! I would have to agree with the judges! Way to go!!!!

Congratulations!!!!! Your cake is absolutely beautiful! I would just want to keep that and look at it. Again, congratulations!
That cake is beautiful. You deserved all three awards. Would you be able to share how you completed that perfect basket?
Congrats!!!!! its beautiful... the detailing its excellent..... was there a theme for the comp.?
Thank you all for taking the time to post such nice notes. It means a lot to me.
The cake was in the Alameda County Fair, which is in the San Francisco Bay Area.
When I get time I will post how I made the basket. (Got to go make some cookies right now).
No, there wasn't a theme so I got to pick any idea that came to mind. ( I was actually looking for an excuse to use that sea urchin shell I made.)
And the day just keeps betting better. I just had lunch with a lady who is friends with Nick Lodge, Kerry Vincent and Colette Peters. Geez, I should go buy a lottery ticket.LOL.
You guys are GREAT!!! Thanks for sharing this with me.
Your excitement is so obvious it is cheering me up just to read this post! Well done to you, well deserved for sure.
Your cake is amazing, especially the basket! I made a miniature basket a few months ago (also for a competition cake) and I had problems with the fondant cracking and drying as I wove it - I cannot even begin to imagine how you made yours on a much larger scale (my basket was only 3"!)
I can see why the judges were so impressed! You truly deserved to win!
