Here is what I want to send to my friend..( I sent her a cake picture I found of a doll standing ontop of a bigger cake with a couple of stairs in the front.. ) She knows nothing about my cakes or cakes for that matter.. Is this letter to much??I'm doing a 18x21 cake (4inches thick).. 50 cupcakes, Cinderella doll cake and a smash cake.. all for 110.00 Is that to much.. and is this letter to much.. VERY LONG!!! Here is what I want to send to her:
Hey Laura!!!
I know this goes through everyones mind. HOW MUCH??? (scroll down for price) Now this will exceed my price menu of lowest being 35 and highest being 65, sent to you on My Space... Feeding around 100 people WOW is alot!!!! But NOT impossible!!
Remember the picture I'm showing you is not my cake, just an idea..
So it will not be identical..
The Cake Doll is so perfect for the theme.. I will need you to supply the doll.. I cannot purchase a disney doll and add it to the cake and charge you for it. It's copyright issues.. BUT if you purchase the doll, I will do the rest!
I can place her on a bigger version of the bottom cake that she is standing on.. The bottom version I can make to feed (including the stairs, cake) around 40 - 55 people.. Cutting the pieces around 2 x 2 each.. The doll cake will feed around 10 - 15 people.. Again cutting pieces 2 x 2. Which is an average slice for a cake.. I will send you with a diagram on how to cut the pieces in order to have plenty!!
(If your keeping the doll and not cutting it) I also will make cupcakes to go around the cake.. To feed more.. I will make 50 cupcakes and just adding a blue rose (edible) on top of each cupcake to make it more girly. OR you can purchase tiny plastic "glass" slippers to go on top of the cupcakes. I believe you can find them at garden rigde or micheals. Cutting the cake correctly and with 50 cupcakes.. (which by the way are great for getting kids out of line fast!!! hand them a cupcake and there gone! keeping the cake for the adults, who will wait more patiently than kids for a piece of cake!! LOL)
will feed approx. 105 people.. I will make a small smash cake for the birthday girl.. which I will not charge for that one.. It will be a small cake just for her!! So that she can stick her little hands in that cake!!!
(It will be simple, just reading Happy 1st Birthday Mallory!)

I will make all the above with you supplying doll and slippers if you want the slippers.. For $110.00
The Doll cake is made with cake, a small amount of buttercream around the dress part and then covered in Marshmallow Fondant.. The fondant I use will not be store bought..It is made with marshmallows, sugar, vanilla and alot of elbow grease!!! LOL
It's basically a icing I roll out and make things with it.. This is also what the roses on the cupcakse will be made of..MMF Marshmallow fondant..

You will have your choice of cake mix : Strawberry, white, french vanilla, yellow, chocolate, pineapple, coconut and or orange.
You will have your choice of cake icing: Buttercream or whipped cream.. I advise you that if your having a outdoor party (sunny hot day) go with buttercream. Whipped icing does not like the sun and tries to run off the cake....
But if your keeping cake indoors, both icings will work great!
If your still not sure.. Typically most people like Buttercream Icing. For some dont like milk, so therefore dont like whipped icing..
I will add pink fondant roses to the ends of the cake and add edible glitter to the cake, to give it a sparkly look..
This cake will be huge and with the cupcakes.. It's going to be beautiful!!!
Let me know what you think..
Take care!

I think $110 is too low for all the items you are making.

I think $175-$200 is a more reasonble price.

I agree, that is a lot of cake for $110, especially a cake with fondant. She's getting a great deal!

I agree that the price is too low for all the work that you will be doing. If you price at $2 per serving you'd be looking at about $200. But I know that I cut special deals for friends and people I know will spread the word since I am just starting out. It's good advertising for me.
I did really like the letter. It was very informative and covered all the bases for someone who doesn't really have much experience with specialized cakes. Great job on that. If I ever have to send one I'd like to use yours as a reference if you don't mind!

You are charging about $1.05/serving. This seems very low.

For all the different things you are making, are you sure it's worth your time to do it for this price?

WOW.. Thanks! and yes you may use as reference.. And yes it's alot of work. Honestly I'm afraid to ask for more.. I guess i'm priceing it as if I would sell each cake by itself.. I would charge 55 - 60 (depending on the decorations) for the sheet cake, and around 35- 40 for the doll (again depending on difficulty).. and for the smash cake around 10 bucks.. Uh.. I think I need to redo the math.. LOL I havent even mentioned the cupcakse.. YIKES... OK be back!!! LOL Thanks again everyone!!!!!!!!!!

One thing I notice about you letter is that is seems to written from the perspective that you are charging a LOT and you think she will freak and so you are trying to convince her (and maybe yourself?) that it is worth that much. It is worth WAY more than you are charging, but if you sound like its a lot then she will perceive that it is a lot. Make sense?

AAHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!! I sent the letter!!! I charged 130 for the sheet cake, doll cake, cupcakes and smash cake.. She was excited.. and understood that I gave her a discount being she was a friend. She would have to buy the doll and slippers for the cupcakes.. I dont feel so bad.. I can do a sheet cake in no time!! I've gotten pretty fast! I'm glad she was satisfied with the price.. Thank you all for your concerns and advice!!!
Christy...
