o.k. I know there are many fondant users out there, so I want your feedback. I have only used Wilton fondant (in class) and MMF. So how does MMF compare with Satin Ice and Pettince (spelling?). I have never ordered the premade kind because there is none available around here. So compare the taste and the texutre. And give your opionon... icon_smile.gif

If your mmf is properly made, they are very similar. MMF is much less expensive (fondant + freight).

The taste is very similar. There is an advantage making it yourself. You can add color and/or flavor with the liquid. that saves kneading in the extras at the end.

In addition to MMF, there are several very good recipes for fondant.

If you decide to buy premade, I recommend Satin Ice or Fondx for white fondant and Pettinice chocolate for chocolate fondant.

The thing I like about the premade fondant (aside from not having to make it) is that I can refrigerate my covered tiers and the fondant doesn't melt. I understand that this can be an issue for people using MMF. That way, I can use perishable fillings in my fondant cakes with no problem.
I use Satin Ice. I've even frozen the cakes to ship to NY from NC and they arrived in one piece. The fondant did become a bit sticky because the humidity is much higher in the freezer, but after sitting out a bit, they dried out. No color running or anything.

I much prefer Satin Ice!! I really don't like making fondant, especially when I need a ton of it. I found MMF to be a little inconsistent and it didn't hold it's shape very well either.

What I did like about MMF was that if I needed to cover a complicated shape it wouldn't dry out while I was trying to cover it. I haven't made it in a while though, since I screwed up my last batch by not sifting the sugar.
