sry bout that...
an old lady 70 yrs old...was arrested for having a dry lawn...an officer was stopping at her place...she was gonna ask him what she could do to make her lawn green...
he never answered her...just said that he was going to arrest her...she wasn't able to call her son...get a bottle of water...
she has bruises on her skin...and marks on her nose...you can tell she was handled roughly...
she was put into a small cell...no water...no food...no A/C...this lady is 70 yrs old...
i think this was just a lil excessive...

That is really sad - some of these laws are a little crazy. What kind of time do people have on their hands to come up with them?

i don't know...in our city...there's no smoking anywhere...no talking on the phone while driving (good, but it should be ppl's choice)...

in my hometown...if dogs our in a group of 5 or more...a mayor must sign a waiver so they can congregate on our lawn...haha...

Thanks for the new link, I was able to view it. It is a shame the it took 5 officers to antagonize this women and there was no other crime in the city for them to attend to. I think that as a punishment the officers should be forced to give part of their paychecks to pay her water bill. Maybe the city could release water from their water hydrients so that she could water her lawn.

the fire hydrant thing was funny...i hope her and her son make a big stink...this is really messed up...
they must have some very bad officers up there...but at the same time..i hate when news puts police in bad light...they do some really great work out there...and w/o them there would be more chaos...
i think w/the negative stories there should be more positive stories...

i never water my lawn either..............(In fact i disagree with it--ie if its not raining we should save our water for i dont know drinking perhaps)....and I think that ordinance is awful...there are people who cannot afford to do that!!!!! if the city wants all yards to be green.....then they should foot the bill.

To me it is morally repugnant, if not criminal, to be wasting water on greening up lawns when there are billions of people drinking the shittiest, crappiest, disease-ridden water just trying/hoping to stay alive, when the very stuff will probably end up killing them.

Just think back to the New Orleans disaster when there was no clean drinking water, except for that which had been bottled, and even that was in short supply, and try imagine being in that situation every day of your life... Even areas that are being flooded out as we write will probably be experiencing a loss of clean drinking water supply through contamination with sewage, etc.

We should be grateful for this resource and not waste it. Just because we think we have an unlimited supply available to us - doesn't mean that we do.

Stepping down off of my soap-box now.

going back to original poster's thoughts - seems like taking a sledgehammer to crack a nut

Thats so sad. In QLD aus we are fined if we water our lawns due to us being on level 5 water restrictions. No cleaning cars or watering lawns. We can bucket water onto plants twice a week and clean windscreens and mirrors but I don't think it would be as harsh as arresting someone, especially a 70 year old woman.
