I am thinking of purchasing black Satin Ice for a black and hot pink cake I'm doing soon. I am also thinking about getting some white that I can color with my Wilton colors. How easy is it to knead colors into Satin Ice? I've never used it before....
Also, how well does the stuff keep? I probably won't use all of either of them but hate to waste it.
Thanks!
I LOVE the black satin ice better than the choc black fondant. it is very easy to add colors to the white. I used white and added super red to make my tool box cake and it colored fine.i keep it in a zipper bag in my pantry. i think it says it last 2 months but im sure it last longer
Satin Ice keeps very well if you store it correctly. Rub a very thin layer of Crisco on the ball of fondant, wrap it in Saran Wrap (or whatever plastic wrap you use) and then put it in a ziplock bag with as much air removed as possible. As long as your fondant isn't contaminated with buttercream or other perishable materials, it'll keep very well for up to a year.
Enjoy! Satin Ice is the fondant I use exclusively.

Satin Ice is wonderful!!! It is the only fondant I use with the exception of choco pan white chocolate!
I have purchased all the colors of Satin Ice. I keep a large bucket of white on hand so if I need a certain color I just pinch off a small amount and add it to the white, you can get tons of great colors. It stays very pliable and is easy to work with.
I order mine from the Nicholas Lodge website. He is the most economical that I have found. Even after the s&h is added, his still comes way less the other online stores. I order the 20lb bucket. It works out better for me.

I bought the 20 lb bucket from intotheoven.com They are very nice and have super fast shipping! Also the price is unbeatable!!
www.decopac.com!! They onyl have the 5# buckets, but it comes out to $2.60 a pound... and ordering 20# buckets (so cheapest price) direct from Satin Ice (www.satinfinefoods.com, you have to call to order) is $2.50 per pound. But the best part? Shipping is only $27 no matter how much you order!! I just got a 100#+ order shipped to AK for that - incredible!
You can check with www.satinfinefoods.com and see if there is a local dealer near you. That might be cheaper than ordering online.
Aside from the online sites that have been mentioned above, Country Kitchens has Satin Ice: http://www.countrykitchensa.com/catalog/SearchResults.aspx?description=satin%20ice&page=-1
and Pfeil and Holing: http://www.cakedeco.com/cgi-bin/webc.cgi/st_main.html?p_catid=70
I love Satin Ice fondant. It stays very elactic-like so it stretches and doesn't seem to crack nearly as bad as MMF and some of the other fondants I've tried. I also use into the oven to purchase it from and they are about $2 cheaper than sugarcraft and also are very fast shipping it to you.
