all this time i was so leary of trying to make mmf; figured i'd have a real sticky mess on my hands and finally tonite i made some.

all my packages even the name brand were only ten ounces so i opend the other and "fudged" the other six (recipe said 16oz) and made it

this was just a practice batch for me so i didnt bother to sift the Ps. next time i will but still.

i'm now one of the happily converted mmf users lol

now keep in mind at this point i've onlly just made the batch and its resting in saran wrap.. i haven't worked with it yet icon_biggrin.gif but its enough to convince me to use it for flowers borders etc!

i feel like a yutz for not trying it sooner lol icon_biggrin.gif

thumbs_up.gif I love MMF... The taste is so great! Good luck working with it ~ it does handle a little different than Wilton's but I've had good luck with it and great reviews from my "tasters" icon_biggrin.gif

I used to love MMF until I tried Satin Ice! I still make a batch of MMF once in a while to make ribbon roses and a few other things.

I agree with the above poster...it tastes great, covers a cake like a dream, and I will freely admit, I use it on cakes I'm going to have no choice but to refridgerate, and it works just fine...HOWEVER...I just want to warn you it's nowhere near as easy to shape things out of as other fondant. It's still a little marshmellowy (yep...made that word right up) icon_wink.gif if that makes sense, and it takes quite a while to dry. I actually found some half unwrapped in the back of my cabinet that's been there a while icon_surprised.gif and it's still not totally dry.

Just didn't want you to think something had gone wrong! Enjoy playing!

Congrats on a successful first batch!

MMF is too elastic for me. While it's easy enough to make, it's still time & labor, and I've actually had it shrink up a bit on a cake. I'm a dedicated Satin Ice user. Have you tried Satin Ice yet?

I've only used MMF. It can be kinda a pain to make. My hands wear out if I have to mix color into it after its made! I keep swearing I'm going to order some Satin Ice or FondX to try...especially if I have a large cake to cover! But, I have had good luck with the MMF. I'm sure you will too!

i used my KA for the majority of mixing it; following instructions to use the mixing blade for the first half and dough hook for the last part. then i greased up myhands and kneeded the rest.. probably wouldn't have had to had i added the 2tbs water it called for (polishes halo)

ok i thought i'd try again and this time add the 2tbs of water the recipe i found here called for..

since the recipe also calls for 16oz bag of marshmallows and my two were only ten oz each i decided to make them equivalent by adding enough from the 2nd bag to equal 16oz

right??

to make sure i was starting off with ten oz; i weighed the bag on a food scale i have. it said 8oz

but the lable says 10!

ok... i THOUGHT (note the Thought there) i'd still try to follow the recipe and make sure i added up to 16oz..

so i kept adding till the bag was full and i was still only at 12 oz. i weighed the remaining 2nd bag and saw 4.5 oz left.

figurd what the heck just add them both which by the "numbers" would be 16oz (not the lable #'s that is)...

right you saw this one coming icon_biggrin.gif

apparently it was too much lol... o

oh well it was only try #2 with mmf. i wondered if it was because it was the strawberry flavored marshmallows - which it could be- but i doubt it.

meh no big deal. its resting in a plastic sack wrapped all the way around it cause SOMEONE forgot to tell me we were out saran wrap. its in the fridge now maybe it will solidify up some....

mebbe lol

ok you can laff now icon_lol.gif

from what i hear each batch has its own "personality" i'm sure the strawberry batch would turn out if i kneaded some more ps in to it.

And some other good stuff to use is the "Jet Puff" stuff in the jars! Already melted out kinda for you there! Then you have just a LITTLE less work!

Although you can't beat Satin Ice, or other pre-made Fondants as far as saving time, but price wise, you can't beat MMF. I found a recipie that doesn't use the mixer either.

1 lb Marshmallows
1/3 C corn syrup
1 tsp clear vanilla
1-2 lb 10x sugar

Grease a large bowl, (Iuse a glass pyrex bowl) with crisco then dump your MM, corn syrup, and vanilla.

Heat it in the microwave for 30-40 sec. increments untill melted.

Have a greased wooden spoon or spatula ready.

Mix with the spoon. At this point you can color it if you want. Add sifted 10x sugar untill it's almost no longer sticky. Take out of bowl onto a smooth surface, ( I use my Silestone counter that is greased and has a little 10x sugar on it)

Once you get it onto the counter, (or Fondant mat) you pretty much just knead untill pliable and not sticky. I then wrap it up in Saran Wrap untill ready to use)

I know those are pretty vague directions, but if you want PM me if you have any questions.
