I hade about 12 pictures of different cakes I have done over the past few months. (One was a 3 tiered fondant cake with fondant accents and my 1st loop present bow) and my hard drive died in my computer a few weeks back and now they are all gone! No one has pictures of these cakes either, just me. The only photos I have now are here on CC from a while back. *sigh* Always remember to load pictures as soon as you can, and don't wait. And it wouldn't hurt to not just take digital but also photos with a camara. Hate to see this happen to anyone else

So sorry you lost your pictures. A hard lesson to learn. I have hard copies in an album of every cake i have ever done as well as cd back up of all the photos on my computer. I learned this lesson long before I started doing cakes. We had a lemon computer that crashed five times in six months. I was lucky QVC stood behind it and refunded my money and I bought another one.

I feel your pain!! I lost pictures of the two basket cakes I did for my mom's b-day icon_cry.gif the same way and it was the ONLY b-day party she has had ever had in her life. icon_cry.gif I took a lot of time and made the cakes super special for her too. Oh well, I guess I still have the memories.

My husband is a computer tech and he says that just because a computer won't boot from that hard drive doesn't mean that the hard drive is dead. The drive can be removed and slaved into another computer so that computer will read it as a data drive and retrieve any pictures from it. If the drive is mechanically dead, it would take a data retreaval company to get the pictures off the drive. If you have any questions, just pm me and I will see if I can help.

Thanks everyone, I hope this doesn't happen to anyone else.

Sunflowerss, unfortunantly my DH is a computer tech too and it's was a gonner. My Dell computer came with an IBM drive, those are known for crashing. He saved a lot of stuff, but some things were lost too because I was lazy and didn't back up my computer like I should have (and as he has told me to do--so now he's holding that over my head icon_lol.gif ) I do still have the majority of my recipes though and other important school info. Thanks anyways though, I appreciate it. It was very sweet of you to ask your DH!

Yikes! I'm backing up my stuff right now and getting prints made (just as soon as I tear myself away from CC...).

Sorry this happened to your cake pics!
