When the bride booked me about a month ago, we made a few minor changes in the cake design to nail down exactly what she wanted. I ended up adding another layer at no additional cost because I felt it would add to the shape of the cake. I would like to know what you guys out there (especially in NC) would have charged for this cake:

Double 14" layer ~ WASC with buttercream filling
12" x 3" layer ~ torted Creme Brulee white cake with raspberry filling
10" x 2" layer ~ torted Chocolate Mocha cake with mocha filling
8" x 2" layer ~ torted Chocolate Mocha cake with mocha filling
Double 6" layer ~ WASC with buttercream filling

Entire cake was covered in buttercream and then fondant. So how about it? What would you have charged? (Keep in mind this was my first wedding cake...)

How many people did it feed? It is hard to visualize how big it is....Awesome Design though. Very unique. I think you did a great job.

I charge 3.00 a serving for fondant. If you 'gave' her the extra piece, I would only charge for the servings she needed.

Total served, according to my matrix, would be 122. Although I think that the matrix I am using only gives half the servings for a single layer cake (i.e., the 12x3" torted cake only serves 22.5?).

In NC and out of my home I charge 2.50 for buttercream and 3.00 for fondant. However - this depends on dec, location, fillings, etc etc!!

I also have to sometimes add an extra layer or so for design, but I don't charge them for it!

I charge 3.75 a serving for fondant. You did a wonderful job. Congratulations on breaking the ice with your first cake...

My breakdown is

Fillings come to 30.00 total.
My servings come to 147

so 147 x 3.75 is 551.25 +30.00=$ 581.25 plus delivery and setup
I didnt include the exta layer either. I do that to .

Hope this helps. Being new at giving customers a price is hard I have a spreadsheet for pricing if you would like it as a judge let me know...

Thanks for your feedback! The cake design, by the way, was based on the bride's dress. However, there is a cake in the gallery by edencakes that helped me to see the possibilities with this one, so thanks so much to her!

I charged the bride $200 for this cake. I think $300 would have probably been a better price, but she's someone from church, small budget, second marriage, and moving away right after the ceremony. Since it was my first wedding cake, I thought better to charge less and give more!

Good choice. I always charge less the first time around and now that you know what making that cake takes you have abetter idea of what to charge....
