Hello everyone.... I'm so thankful for this website and really have appreciated the feedback I've received thus far from various questions I've asked.

I just completed my first fondant cake and wanted to share it with you all. Over all I'm pretty proud of it, even though I had some problems constructing the fondant bow. I improvised what I could, and my client was very pleased.

Take care icon_smile.gif

How did you get the fondant so black? I have an order for a ladybug cake and I need black mmf.

Thank you for the kind response. I would love to take credit for the blackness of my fondant, but alas I cannot. I actually ordered it online. It's Satin Ice fondant, and it tastes pretty good. I was pleasantly surprised. As for the writing on the scroll, I started with chocolate buttercream and then added Wilton's black color gel to it.

That cake looks great! Much better than my first present cake wtih fondant!

I just made some really black fondant using the Americolor Black gel that I bought here. I only needed a little (for the nose and eyes of a dog cake I'm doing later in the week) and was surprised at how little of the gel it took to make it really black (I'm used to the Wilton colors that never get black!) I was too lazy to get gloves, and was happy to see that it came right off my skin too- something I never liked about the Wilton Colors.

here is a thread on how to make black MMF. I made it accidently a few months ago using dark cocoa. it is super easy and you dont even need to add black coloring..scroll down until you see my name and it will tell you how I did it. HTH...

your cake looks great MLW176...

You can buy premade fondant from Wilton, but it tastes aweful. I make Marshmallow fondant(MMF) and love the taste. There are recipes on CC for MMF and also an article called how to make and decorate with MMF I think.

Hope that helps.

Stephanie
