here it is! my first wedding cake. i certainly learned alot! thanks to everyone who offered their help!

isn't it funny how you can really see your mistakes in a picture, but at the time the cake looked o.k.? customer loved it and i guess that's what counts. i know i'm not at the wedding cake level yet but i just couldn't say no. the husband was called to active duty in the military and they put together a wedding in a week- so i figured i would do what i could.

thanks for looking and thanks again to everyone for their help!

The cake looks gorgeous!

The grease will go thru the wax paper, too. I'm not sure how you get it to not go thru, hopefully someone else will know that one!

Anyway, GREAT JOB!!!

Beautiful cake. You did a great job. As for as the grease coming through. I can relate. Try rolling out a thin strip of fondant, the size of the ribbon and putting between ribbon and cake. I have tried that with some royal icing deocations. Working fine for me.

It looks like maybe the grease on the ribbon came from the border. So the lining on the back of the ribbon probably worked, it is just that there wasn't anything to protect the front of the ribbon from your border.

Just a thought. It is beautiful though.

You did a wonderful job on your first wedding cake! Be proud of yourself, and don't worry about all the "imperfections" you see. I know that feeling! It has taken me quite some time to actually realize I CAN make a beautiful cake, and it's okay to be proud of your work! Take a look at the photo I'm posting for you. Looks great, huh? Now....look a little closer. The beads of ivory buttercream are missing on the top and bottom bases of each of those layers. You can see what I mean by the beads that ARE on the base of the middle layer. I ran out of time! A huge storm had blown in as I was trying to deliver and set up, and I had to stop the final decorations before the guests arrived at the reception site. I ran out of time!!! Needless to say, I was crushed, and expected no one, especially the bride and groom, to like the finished product. I saw every imperfection and I wasn't very happy about it (this was my 4th wedding cake). However, no one noticed the imperfections but me, and the couple was VERY pleased with their wedding cake. I still see the imperfections, but I know they were happy, so life goes on!!! Hope this makes you feel a little better! And, by the way, I was looking at your cake for imperfections, and I didn't see ANYTHING that looked bad at all!!!! Wonderful job!!!!

thanks everyone!

suzian- thanks so much for the wonderful compliments, i am trying to learh how to not be so hard on myself! i see what you mean about your beads, but come on- my cake doesn't even come close to your cake! the end result was that the couple was happy and your right life goes on from there.

i know the only way to get better is with time and practice and we all have to start at the beginning!

thanks again to everyone!
