I know this has been brought up previously and I have been searching for over 30 minutes in the forums because I also am getting tired of reading the same topics over and over.....

Can anyone suggest website programs for a personal non-business website for me? Several people have asked me if I have one and thought it might save some time and be fun for friends and family to see.

Thanks a lot for any help!!

I use 1and1.com which you can use to register any site name (business or personal) you want, as long as it's available, and they have a really simple program that makes it VERY easy to make up a page and put in your photos and stuff. I'm not very website making savvy and I got one put together in one evening!

Good luck!

I just got an account with godaddy. They have been very helpful and I find it really easy to use and very reasonable.

If your looking for a free site - www.freewebs.com is an excellent choice I had an account thru them for a while and it's very easy to use and Free!!

OH I forgot about freewebs.com. That was a good one too! I used them a long time ago to set up a family site when my son was born!

I use photosite for all our photos. It's very easy to use. They resize all the pictures and back them up.

I also have a website thru Yahoo for about $9/month! I used FrontPage to create it, although Yahoo offers free website building tools! I love them!

I hadn't shared it on CC because it wasn't where I wanted it to be....and still isn't! I'm also in the process of adding copyright and watermark images....but if you want to take a peek it's http://www.cleverconfections.com

Your website is great!! VERY easy to navigate through. This is what I was also looking for. And you made this using which program? Yahoo building tools? Thank you so much for sharing!

Is there a "trick" to watermarking photos?

Thank you soooo much! You don't know how good your complement makes me feel! I've gotten criticism from some because there are a few scanned "wilton" images from their yearbooks. I know this is not a legal way to do things, and I'll probably remove them, but I had planned to replace their images with my images once I was able to reproduce the cakes! Anywho, we have a version of Microsoft XP that came with FrontPage 2003, so I didn't have to purchase FrontPage seperately (it's pretty expensive), but then had trouble loading it to cleverconfections.com, because FrontPage is not 100% compatible with Yahoo webhosting unless it's a certain version. So I posted a thread here on CC and someone lead me to smartftp.com...which is a program for loading websites. IT WORKS beautifully and I'm able to drag n' drop my files and click one button to upload them! Yahoo webhosting does have some webbuilding tools that are free to use once you purchase your domain! I highly recommend Yahoo Webhosting!

Your information on this is priceless!!! thumbs_up.gif Thank you!!

This is a project that I will probably start working on hopefully in the next couple of weeks. Like I mentioned, it is primarily for my friends and family members to look at instead of sending them cake pictures individually. Totally non-business!

THANK YOU!!!! icon_lol.gif

If it's totally non-business you may want to consider freewebs.com! Other's have had much luck with it and it's free! I would hate to have a revolving fee every month if I didn't have to and it wasn't a business expense I could write off!

I used to work on webpages as work, so I have Macromedia Dreamweaver - which I love but it's expensive. after making my simple starter webpages I drag-n-dropped them to freewebs.com
since I overwrote the freewebs default index - there is no ad on my site and it's still free icon_lol.gif

good luck! and have fun!

I think your website is great to.. thumbs_up.gif very easy to navigate through.... my only critique would be that the font is a little too large on each page and the fonts on the buttons are a little too small.

this is just my opionion though...

best of luck with your business !

I also have a domain and hosting account with GoDaddy.com. I have a web design business but MY web business site is nothing more than my company contact information and "Under Construction". I just registered a second domain and hosting account with MySQL for an availibility calendar and a "slideshow" gallery for my "new" cake decorating business (have three paid orders and three family birthdays this month so far). I pay about $40.00/year TOTAL for both domains and hosting accounts. I threw this together yesterday and am currently putting together my pricing, flavors, "tweaking" the calender (the one there now is just a placeholder), and the galleries. So no pictures yet. thumbs_up.gifwww.kimskakes.com
