I'm thinking about doing Cake Decorating shows, similar to the Pampered Chef. The concept would be to demonstrate how to decorate a simple cake using Wilton products.

I would also be selling Wilton products at the shows and offering discounts to the hosts for having a party.

What do you all think about this idea? The whole idea is for me to sell my Wilton products.

You would probably need permission from Wilton. As long as you didn't have to invest too much for start up, it might work in some areas. however, advertising is expensive. word of mouth might work.

I personally would be leary of doing things like this, mainly because people don't like going to home show parties. It is really hard to get people to take time out of their schedules to attend the parties, and hard to get people to host them. I used to sell products that way, and it was always such a disappointment. I put so much work and effort into it, and didn't get a return. You probably would have to get the go ahead from Wilton first, and they might not want you to because it would take away from their classes. Just my opinion!

How would you be able to make a profit doing this? You would have to get a big enough discount on the Wilton products (would they give you one?) so you could turn around and charge regular price, or a discounted one, and you also have to pay for the prizes you are plannaing to give away to the hostess for throwing the party.

Also, don't forget, people can get a 40% off coupon for Hobby Lobby and Michaels and can get stuff cheap that way, so you would have to price your items between that and regular price.

I think it's a great idea, I would go to one myself, but I just don't know if there is any money in it for you.
