Well, I've solved your problem! FIRST I think your cake is GREAT! BUT, since you DON'T, I'm going to e-mail a copy to MY PAINTING INSTRUCTOR and see what SHE says! Pretty sure she will say....THAT IS AMAZING!! I can't BELIEVE that you can actually PAINT on a cake!
Back with your answer when she returns the e-mail!

The painting looks beautiful. I can see how you want a little something b/c we're always used to cakes having stuff stick out. Just put something on top or some borders for dimension. Or you can run the painting up to the top. But the painting and the smoothing look great!!!!!
I'd better be careful. Doug just might have a wooden spoon long enough to reach me from Lumberton.

Tooooo funny! Me too! and then... no way! She painted the CAAAAKE! It looks amazing and I love that it looks like so many of the other cakes of this style but then you look at it up close and its sooooo different. Its one of my favorite designs overall and this tops it with its unique look!
the lighter/darker color suggestions would just give it a little dimension - as would some tiny blossoms...but only if you wanted to....that cake is perfectly lovely as is. And I'm impressed that you're sitting after all the whippings!!
It looks wonderful to me! You shouldn't be so hard on yourself.

hehehehe cherrybomb wooden spoon, I SWORE I would never share that part of of my logo story but I might have to someday, I thought only alabamians got beat with wooden spoons 
Good LAWD my mama must have broke a million on my backside growing up, and thank the lord for pampered chef, cause theirs are virtually unbreakable or so my sisters little one says every time she enters the $ tree and sees the bag o spanking spoons, hehehehehehhehehe!
