I had a student ask me last night about tips. In my opinion what times you have or double up on depends on what you like to do. Pay attention to what tips you use the most of and those are the ones you will be better off buying.

I have tips that I have never used, nor do I know what I would ever use them for. So they aren't really helping me. Where as the tips I have mutiples of I usually use them all the time and often time wish I had more of them.

Rounds, stars and petal tips are always nice to have extras/doubles of. Different sizes of these let you do larger or smaller things.

The rounds for sure, stars, leaves, rose tips, grass #233 and the basket weave.......those are the ones that I have extra for. I hope I'm not leaving any out.

I have about ten or more of tip 3 and tip 18! I use them the most! Some tips in my kit I think I've never used! And I can't understand a closed star tip! Does anybody use those?

A closed star tip just makes a deeper groove in the design. Instead of being outward in appearance, the groove goes more inward for a different look.

I stopped using them, and even opened some up with my tip saver. I found that there would always be one petal, or slit in the tip, that the icing wouldn't come out of ... runining the whole flower.
