No long nails, whether real or fake. I am a stickler about hair, jewelry, earrings and nails. It is taking a real chance that something would fall into a cake, can you imagine a customer finding a nail in their cake! Yuk! A baker or decorator should be well groomed and cautious about all of the above.

I do have gel put over my real nails, because they are very thin. However I keep my nails just over fingertip length. Not flashy, just keeps them from breaking into the quick.

This is gross but I worked with someone who noticed I had longer nails--I had been away from the job for my wedding and had let them grow--not really long just over the finger tip. She ran out and bought fake nails to out do mine and was busy showing them off. Later she came up in a panic--one was missing and in what food product did it land it? We looked for 1/2 hour and luckily found it before someone ate it. We had to throw out the food it contaiminated and she was sent home.

My mother in law and sister in law used to get manicures and pedicures until they both ended up with infections that gave them rashes and nail fungus--really gross it was from the same place.
