I have to make a Tiffany box cake this weekend with a lid. It will be 5 tiers stacked. I'm not sure how to make the lid of it. Any tips would be greatly appreciated!! Also, I'm wondering if the box can be buttercream and the lid fondant maybe?
Thanks so much!!!

I have heard of some people using cardboard covered in fondant for the lid... never made one myself though-

I agree with the cardboard idea - hey, even steal a real lid off of a cardboard box! If the desired look is to have the box lid opened, you can prop it up with a straw or small dowel rod and disguise the support by adding tissue paper to look like the box is stuffed with tissue paper.

I have heard of some shaping their fondant over the baking pan to make the lid. If you want it to harden, maybe you could try a mix of gumpaste....

See my post here.

Also, yes I decorated the cake with buttercream and the lid was gumpaste.
