I am making my son a 3D Thomas the tank cake sitting on a sheet cake Using this tutorial for the Thomas part http://thomasthetankenginecake.blogspot.com/

However my Thomas is leaning titling sliding left. i cant figure out what to do.
Please please help. i have already trashed one cake ( i tried the 3d wilton trian pan and thought that was the problem). But same thing is happening with the crave method.

It is sort of hard to see the problem without actually seeing the cake.

Is the train on a flat surface? It should be.

If it is on a sheet cake, is that level?

If the train also on a board, are there dowels under it for support?

i agree. put the train on cardboard cut to shape. place dowels under the train cake and cardboard. then, also place a long dowel or two through both cakes, to hold it up and together.

I agree we need to see a picture but I would use a dowel for support. Hopr that helps

What kind of cake did you make for Thomas? A dense cake is best for carving. When I tried Thomas the first time I used a cake that was way to moist and the same thing happened to me. I had to call my dil and tell her we had a train wreck lol.

I had this problem when I made thomas. I used the wilton train pan and thought that was the problem. His back was tilted, but it was the first 3d cake i did besides a bear, so I was happy in the end.

Are you using a filling or bc between the layers? the cake could be sliding because the filling or bc inbetween the layers was too soft and did not have time to set before you put the next layer of cake.

I recomend putting the cake in the fridge as you are building it so each layer of filling sets first before stacking the next layer.

If you think this might be your problem, I recommend putting the whole cake in the fridge or freezer till it is very set, then see if you can carve a little more off to make it straight.

Good luck.

My husband kind of fixed the problem. We elevated the back of the cake with an extra board. Since this is for my son and is not being bought Im not gonna fret anymore.
I did the cardboard between the train and sheet on the 3D pan attempt And I Dowel the heck out of the second attempt. We actually used a ruler and measured the sheet cake but it's level and so are the layers i used to build the train.
My friend had it correct when he said Thomas is just cuaseing confusion and delay!
I think the cake will be fine for the party. Sometimes we have to just accept that some cakes are evil and refuse to obey. Thomas is that cake for me.

BTW i have added new pictures from my first wilton cake class to my web album listed in my siggy. I will add Thomas to it tomorrow.
