I want to put a 1" lacey fondant boarder at the base of my cake...... Can I make these up ahead of time, lay them flat, and seal them in a plastic bag ? I'm doing my first wedding cake this weekend, and I'm a wreck... I'd like to get as much done ahead of time as possible, but I CERTAINLY don't want to have to do it twice !

Yes, I have done this and just don't overlap or lay others strips on top and keep cool but not refrigerated.

Good luck, you can do it!

I just did a ribbon wrap on a wedding cake. I did them ahead in a way I thought would work, it didn't.

I rolled the ribbon out on strips of acetate, then gently curled the acetate in a roll and put that in an airtight container. It didn't stick to itself, but, the ribbon did not hold together and broke in several places while I was wrapping it around the cakes.

Be prepared for a similar problem. Take a rolling sheet, your pin, and whatever else you might need to replicate the ribbon. Some breaks can be repaired, some you just have to start over.

Thanks, Joann..... I plan on putting the trim on Friday, and the wedding is Sat., so I will be home for the repairs, if there are any.....keep your fingers crossed that there will not be any.......
